Shawn Douston

President and Partner

Shawn founded Douston Construction in 1985 with Gail, his wife and business partner. Shawn and Gail have poured their hearts into Douston Construction creating a company successful in building or designing homes and developments. Shawn uses his personal ideals as a base for his business. Quality workmanship, timely completion, fair costing, honesty, dependability, and great customer service are all packaged in a Douston Construction product. Over the years Shawn has diversified the company's projects to include single and multi family homes, condominiums, as well as some light commercial construction. By diversifying, Shawn has given Douston Construction the opportunity to widen its base of potential customers. His problem solving skills and keen eye for growth and development have made his company one of Maine's premier construction firms.  Shawn has a full office staff that provides excellent customer service. He is quoted as saying, "We are a progressive construction firm. We offer services that meet the needs of our customers by being consistently on time and within budget." This viewpoint demonstrates his philosophy of customer satisfaction. He truly understands that the customer's needs come first. If the customer is happy, then Douston Construction has been successful.

Career Background
Shawn is from Benedicta Maine, a small rural farming community in Northern Maine. Prior to founding Douston Construction, he worked for Roberge Construction. There he started as a Carpenter Helper and left as a Lead Carpenter. He also worked for Keeley Construction, a Portland-based commercial construction company working as an apprentice mason. Shawn graduated from Northern Maine Vocational Technical Institute with a degree in Masonry & Related Construction.

Shawn and Gail are the proud parents of three sons, Logan, Garth, and Blake. Shawn enjoys the outdoors, hiking, gardening, and being involved in the extra-curricular activities that come with a growing family.

Bill

Production Manager

Bill has been with Douston Construction since 1993 and in the construction industry for over 20 years. While he has a specialized background in custom cabinets and finish carpentry, Bill is also one of our Site Supervisors from frame through finish. Bill's attention to detail and expertise in the finish carpentry area make him a crucial member of the Douston team. Bill works closely with our customers and our Project Managers to ensure the projects success from.

Career Background
Bill is from Rochester New Hampshire. He attended Stratham Technical College for two years where he studied drafting.

 

Butch

Production Manager

Butch has been with Douston Construction since 1985 and in the construction industry for over 20 years. His role as Site Supervisor includes several responsibilities. He oversees our construction crews, is responsible for interpreting plans, material orders, scheduling sub-contractors and making sure that the projects run smoothly and according to schedule. Butch began with Douston Construction just about the time it began; he has greatly contributed to creation of the company's impeccable reputation.

 

 

Office Staff

Patty

Office Administrator

Patty has worked as the Office Administrator for Douston Construction since 1997. She is responsible for overseeing every aspect of bookkeeping and tracks work in process on a monthly basis comparing actual costs to estimated cost.  She compiles and analyzes monthly reports to forecast the company's financial progress. Patty provides our customers with detailed reports of the financial activity of their project.

Paulette

Bookkeeping Assistant/ Human Resources

Paulette joined Douston in January of 2002.  She assists the Office Manager in maintaining the financial records for the company.

Paulette also works closely with the Project Manager in creating budget reports necessary for a customer's project.  Clients should feel free to call her if they have any questions regarding the financial aspect of their home building experience.

Paulette's background in small business management and human resources allowed her to develop the human resource department at Douston Construction. Her responsibilities include processing the weekly payroll and maintaining all employee records and benefits.

Dave

Project Manager

David was a subcontractor for Douston Construction as a finish carpenter for 1 1/2 years before joining us in the office in March of 2001. He brings with him 23 years experience in the construction business. His role at Douston is to follow projects through to completion acting as a liaison between our clients, our job supervisors, the office and subcontractors.

Career Background
David graduated from New England Aeronautical Institute with an Associate Degree in Business Administration in 1978. While searching for a career opportunity, he worked as a carpenter's apprentice, and discovered his calling. He honed his carpentry skills working for local contractors and a cabinetmaker until 1984 when he opened his own General Contracting business, which ran successfully for 11 years. During this time, he took continuing education courses in Basic Drafting, Architectural Drafting, and AutoCAD. In 1995, David was offered a position as Chief Engineer with a local lodging and restaurant company that owns several properties. With this company, he oversaw the construction of a new restaurant including, a 5000-bottle wine room. He was also responsible for the day-to-day maintenance operations. This position allowed him to gain knowledge in the mechanics of commercial restaurant equipment, sprinkler systems, and HVAC systems.  David is also certified in Erosion Control Practices from the Maine Nonpoint Source Training and Resource center.

Sam

Estimator/Project Manager

Sam began work at Douston Construction as a carpenter in the summer of 1996 while attending college.  His time in the field taught him the basics of framing production and firsthand knowledge of the products used and the role of subcontractors.  He worked part time in the Douston office while in college studying Business Management and then shifting to Computer Technology. He graduated from Southern Maine Community College in 2002 with a degree in Computer Technology.

Sam started working full time in the office after graduating from college.  His role at Douston is that of both an estimator and Project Manager.

Crystal

Estimator / Project Manager

Crystal has been with Douston since 2008.  Her background includes Design, Estimating and Project Management, with over 10 years in the construction industry.  Prior to joining our team, Crystal spent the past 6 years working as a Project Manager and Estimator for a commercial General Contractor.

Career Background
Crystal has a B.A in Design from Wentworth Institute of Technology.  Her career has included positions as a staff designer for Sonesta Hotels, Financial designer, Project Manager/Designer of custom millwork and Project Manager/Estimator for commercial projects along the Seacoast.
